Course: Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Course Description
This syllabus will serve as a guide for understanding the federal and state requirements of the course. Topics and objectives listed are designed to provide a comprehensive program of study, to prepare students to pass the Permit Test and the CDL Class A License Test and to prepare them to exercise the privileges of the CDL Class A License.
Certificate
Completion of this course results in a TATC Certificate of Proficiency for the CDL Program and prepares students to pass the Permit Test and the CDL Class A License Test.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:

Competencies (skills you will learn)
• Demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the commercial driver which
are based on knowledge of the industry rules and regulations and care and safety in driving
• Demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal (written) communications with regard to trip
planning and accurate log books
• Demonstrate an understanding of general fire safety and OSHA guidelines for the trucking industry
• Demonstrate load distribution with safe and proper load restraint
• Understand and correctly read bills of lading
Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered on a defined schedule.
Course Length
The defined length of this course is 120 hours, which provides 40 hours of didactic assignments and 80 hours of driving training divided between the practice driving ranges and the public roads.
