Course: CMA Externship
Course Description
Clinicals, externships and internships provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their administrative and clinical skills in a health care setting. Students will demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, effective communication with the health care provider staff and patients. Students will also demonstrate knowledge and competency of medical assisting front office administrative skills to include clerical aspects, insurance filing, communications, ethical issues, electronic recordkeeping and inventory management. In the Clinical Medical Assistant program, an externship is required in order to provide students with the training and experience they need to meet industry requirements and pass certifications. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge of job readiness in all basic medical assisting skills.
Certificate
Completion of the clinical course, along with all of the other courses in the CMA Program, will certify proficiency in the skills by a Clinical Medical Assistant. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in a defined format. Students will consider the clinical practice as if it were their job. They will be expected to arrive on time and stay until the clinical is over.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 160 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
