Course: Designing a Windows Network Infrastructure
Course Description
The goal of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the technologies and techniques required to create a successful design for a network infrastructure using the services and protocols available in a Windows network. Prepares students for exams included in the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of network infrastructure design and protocol based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course is not required by any Information Technologies Programs.
Competencies (skills you will learn)
• Analyze business and technical requirements
• Design a TCP/IP networking strategy, a DHCP strategy, name resolution services strategy, a
multi-protocol strategy, a Distributed file system (Dfs) strategy, an Internet and extranet access
solution strategy, an a load-balancing strategy
• Design a Wide Area Network Infrastructure to include Routing and Remote Access (RRAS)
and virtual private network (VPN)
• Design a strategy for monitoring and managing Windows network services including a global
catalog, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) services, Certificate Services, DNS, DHCP,
WINS, Routing and Remote Access, Proxy Server, and Dfs
Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Information Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.
