Course: Flux Cored Arc Welding

 

Course Description

This course is Flux Cored Arc Welding where students learn wire-feed welding using wire with a flux core. They also learn dual shield welding where they weld with flux cored wire and gas. They learn the proper settings and adjustments on various brands and models of MIG welders for each type of welding. Students will learn the basics of fitting for Flux Cored welding and setup for various welding positions.

 

Certificate

Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of flux cored arc welding tools and techniques based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skills Competence is available upon request.

 

Competencies (skills you will learn)

     •   Describe the effect of flux on the weld

     •   Describe the difference between self shielding and gas shielding

     •   Demonstrate the parts of a flux cored arc welding setup

     •   List the major limitations of the flux cored arc welding process

     •   Demonstrate the effects that changing from a self-shielded to a dual-shielded electrodes

         system has on welding

     •   Demonstrate Control weld bead contour during welding by using the proper weave pattern

     •   Demonstrate an ability to control undercut, overlap, porosity, and slag inclusions when welding

         in all positions

     •   Pass standard AWS weld test using FCA welding

 

Course Structure

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

 

Course Length

The estimated length of this course is 35 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

 

Admission Requirements

Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. Also, the Welding Introduction and Safety Course must be completed prior to this course.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
