Course: Welding Introduction and Safety
Course Description
Students will learn how to use the basic tools of the welding industry. Introduction and Safety is where the students learn about safety, work ethics and basic measuring tools used in welding.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of welding tools and safety based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skills Competence is available upon request.
Competencies (skills you will learn)
• The major welding processes and the equipment required
• The factors that must be considered before a welding process is selected
• The history of welding
• The responsibilities and duties of the welder in various welding positions
• Demonstrate the type of protection that should be worn for welding
• Demonstrate the proper method of handling, storing, and setting up cylinders
• The proper way to ventilate a welding area
• How to avoid possible health hazards for welding
• How to prevent fires in the welding shop
Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 15 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Admission Requirements
Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks. Please visit the Tuition pages of this website or contact Student Services for current tuition and fee information.
